Dan Mitchell is the talented caller and square dance instructor for the Peachtree Squares - Square Dance Club of Atlanta. He has been calling for our club for over sixteen years and is known throughout the South East. |
Dan started Square Dancing in 1970 in Bremerhaven, Germany while in the Army. He heard about square dance lessons advertised on the radio. Like many men in the square dance community, he was pulled into square dancing, and ended up completely captivated by it.
In 1971, he returned to his home in Memphis, Tennessee and continued to dance for several years. A few times, Dan would sing at the Club dances. The Club caller also owned a record and clothing store. He decided he wanted to do that full time. This lead to Dan becoming the caller for that Club.
In 1980 the old AT&T transferred him to the Nashville area where he became the caller for 4 clubs. In 1991 AT&T transferred him again. This time it was to the Atlanta area. He soon became the caller for 2 Atlanta area clubs including Peachtree Squares.

Dan Mitchell, our talented caller, loves to call square dances, however, he seems to enjoy the teaching even more. He is well known as a dynamic, friendly and patient instructor for the dance lessons we sponsor. He uses large doses of humor to keep us laughing at our own mistakes. |
Dan always said "When it stops being fun, I quit." -- Well, he's been having lot of fun for 38 years! |
